Ghanaian artisans in Kumasi, the capital of the Asante (or Ashanti) Region, hand carve these richly detailed stools from the wood of cedrela trees, a fast-growing plantation species. They are styled after the renowned Golden Stool of the Ashante. Additional carved patterns grace the seat and edges of the base.
Adinkra symbols represent the history and beliefs of the Ashante. The Nsaa Adinkra symbol is the central element of this stool. It represents excellence, genuineness, and authenticity.
These stools are not machine made. They are hand-carved, making each piece a unique work of art. Stained with a rich dark brown stain, it is slightly smaller than the original at 22 inches long x 12 inches wide x 18 inches high.

Osei-tutu (1660-1712/1717) was co-founder and first ruler of the Ashante empire. According to legend, his chief priest, Okomfo Anokye, called the Ashante peoples together in an effort to unite the nation. He then asked the heavens to produce a symbol what would unite them.
