Description
This beautiful set of 2 Moroccan style natural totes with black leather handles are handcrafted by a network of Bolgatanga artisans in northeast Ghana. Highly durable, this set of baskets nest together and come in two functional sizes:
- Large: 16 inches wide x 11 inches high x 8 inches deep | 20 inches high to top of handles
- Small: 15 inches wide x 10 inches high x 7 inches deep | 19 inches high to top of handles
The totes feature sturdy, leather-wrapped handles. Woven from veta vera, locally known as elephant grass. Elephant grass is harvested from local rivers and streams.
Since every piece is handmade, the baskets you receive may vary slightly from those pictured. An informational hang tag is attached for gift giving.
Elegant and functional, baskets can be used in any room of your home. Large hampers are excellent for storing blankets, pillows, towels, and other linens. Medium and small decorative baskets make great potato and onion bins for the kitchen pantry. Consider using them as toy boxes for your children or furry friends. They are also an attractive way to store magazines, crafts, and other items you want to keep handy.
Gift Giving: If you plan to gift this item, the packaging may indicate what is inside.

About the Artisans
Weavers in the Bolgatanga region of Ghana, West Africa, are world renown for their beautiful handiwork.
Before weaving can begin, artisans must harvest the grass, dry it, split the grass into various sizes, select the correct size for the basket they want to create, determine the colors, and dye the grass. Weaving the basket is a time-intensive process. It generally takes 3 days to create a medium-sized basket. Weaving begins at the base and ends with the rim. Handles are then applied, and the baskets trimmed.
Basket weaving is typically a woman's craft. The local farming community is fraught with intemperate weather. Farming income alone is not always enough to meet the family's needs, so the women supplement it by weaving baskets.
