Account Registration & Order Processing
Account Registration
If you decide to open an account, we will ask for your contact information. That information includes your name, address, telephone number, and email address. Opening an account gives us the ability to personalize your site experience and provide content and product offerings of interest.
Placing an Order
When you place an order with us, you must provide Personal Information. We collect your name, mailing address, telephone number, email address, and other details pertinent to the order. This information is used for billing purposes and to fill your orders. If we have questions processing an order, we will use this information to contact you. We also retain information about your purchases. No financial data is captured or maintained on our servers (i.e. credit card information). That information is captured by your financial institution, payment gateways, and temporarily by our eCommerce service provider while the transaction is processing.
Gift Recipients
If you ask us to ship an item to someone else, we collect the name and address of the gift recipient as well as your name and contact information. The information we collect about gift recipients is not used for marketing purposes.
Children's Online Privacy Protection Act
The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) determines what website operators must do to protect children's privacy and safety. Shakespeare's Attic does not specifically market to, or knowingly collect information from, children under the age of 13. Our Terms of Service states you must be at least 18 years old to use our website.

If you contact us via telephone or email with a question or other inquiry, we collect the Personal Information you provide. We use that information to respond to your inquiry.
Newsletters & Promotions
We may use your contact information to send newsletters or communicate special offers, events, products, or services that may be of interest to you. Response to these communications is voluntary. If you respond to any email or promotional activity initiated by Shakespeare's Attic, we will collect the Personal Information you provide.
Surveys & Contests
We may request information via surveys or contests. Participation is voluntary. Information requested may include contact information (i.e. name and address) and demographic information (such as zip code, age level). Contact information will be used to notify the winners and award prizes. Survey information will be used for purposes of monitoring or improving the use and satisfaction of this site.

Other Information Collected
We use two types of cookies: session cookies and persistent cookies. Session cookies terminate shortly after you end your internet session. Third Parties
Protecting the privacy and security of your Personal Information is a priority at Shakespeare's Attic. We do not and will never share, disclose, sell, rent, or otherwise provide Personal Information to other companies for the marketing of their own products or services. We do share Personal Information with service providers who assist us in operating our business. In general:
  • "Third parties" does not include Shakespeare's Attic or brands operated by Shakespeare's Attic.
  • We share Personal Information with third parties who assist us in operating our website, conducting our business, or servicing you, so long as those parties agree to keep your Personal Information confidential. Those third parties include, but are not limited to, website hosting, our eCommerce service provider, payment gateways, and accounting services.
  • In order to process your orders and requests, we may also provide your name, mailing address, and telephone number to package delivery services (i.e. FedEx and UPS). If you order a product that is shipped directly from another company, we will share your name, mailing address, and telephone number with the other company. These companies do not retain, share, store, or use Personal Information for any secondary purposes beyond filling your order.
  • Shakespeare's Attic does not retain any personal financial information (i.e. debit or credit card). Payment gateways, payment transaction processors, and your financial institution maintain that data and have their own privacy policies in respect to the information we must provide for your purchase-related transactions.
  • We may share non-personal, non-individually identifiable information about our customers with third parties such as vendors, advertisers, and marketing firms.

While you cannot access or change the non-Personal Information collected, you can review, correct, and update your account profile at If you want to remove all the Personal Information in your account profile, you can delete it anytime online or contact us. Please note: If you remove your account completely, we will maintain information about sales transactions in order to service that transaction and for record keeping purposes. We will also retain anonymous or anonymized information, such as website visits, without identifiers, in order to improve our services.
Opt Out
If you sign up for our newsletter, we may send you periodic emails. If you decide to unsubscribe from future emails, you can contact us or follow the instructions at the bottom of the email. We will promptly remove you from all correspondence. In accordance with the CAN-SPAM Act, Shakespeare's Attic also agrees to the following:

Do Not Track (DNT)
Shakespeare's Attic supports the development and implementation of a standard "do not track" browser feature that provides customers with control over the collection and use of information about their web browsing activities. Once a standardized "do not track" feature is released, Shakespeare's Attic plans to adhere to the browser settings.


General Guidelines
We take reasonable precautions and follow industry best practices to make sure your Personal Information is not inappropriately lost, misused, accessed, disclosed, altered, or destroyed. Only a limited number of persons have access rights to such systems, and they are required to keep the information confidential. Please note: No method of transmission over the internet, or method of electronic storage, is 100% secure. Therefore, we cannot guarantee the absolute security of your Personal Information.
Your personal data is contained behind secured networks. All data is encrypted using secure socket layer technology (SSL) and stored with a AES-256 encryption. Our eCommerce service provider is audited annually by a qualified security assessor to ensure handling of your Personal Information aligns with industry guidelines. They are certified as a PCI DSS Level 1 compliant service provider, which is the highest level of compliance available.
No credit card or payment processing information is stored on our servers. All transactions are processed through a payment gateway. All payment gateways adhere to the standards set by PCI-DSS as managed by the PCI Security Standards Council, which is a joint effort of brands like Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover.
Fair Information Practices
The Fair Information Practices Principles (FIPPs) identified by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) form the backbone of privacy law in the United States. In order to be in line with Fair Information Practices, we will take the following responsive action, should a data breach occur:
  • We will notify our customers via email within one (1) business day.
  • We will notify our customers via site notification within one (1) business day.
We also agree to the individual redress principle, which requires that individuals have a right to pursue legally enforceable rights against data collectors and processors who fail to adhere to the law. This principle requires not only that individuals have enforceable rights against data users, but also that individuals have recourse to courts or a government agency to investigate and/or prosecute non-compliance by data processors.

We may change or add to this Privacy Statement. When that happens, we will post the revised Privacy Statement here. Your use of one of our services after changes to this policy have been posted, constitutes your knowledge and acceptance of those changes. We will never materially change our policies and practices to make them less protective of customer information collected in the past, without the consent of affected customers.
